American Style Pancakes I'm rarely impressed with a pancake recipe, usually because they're never as good às an American diner, but these are amazing! I pretty much love all types of pancakes, thin and crisp and the thick, soft and fluffy American-style pancakes that are hard to beat. I've tested batch after batch of pancakes since landing on this recipe - trying out different quantities of buttermilk, yoghurt, sour cream and milk and several batches of pancakes later I have finally discovered the perfect pancake. You can have American Style Pancakes using 7 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of American Style Pancakes

  1. You need 115 g of plain flour.
  2. Prepare 1.5 tsp of baking powder.
  3. Prepare 1 tsp of Caster sugar.
  4. Prepare Pinch of salt.
  5. Prepare 1 of egg.
  6. Prepare 150 ml of milk.
  7. It's 30 g of butter (plus extra for greasing the pan).

These are those thick, spongy American pancakes that are often eaten with warm maple syrup and crisp fried bacon. I love them with the syrup alone, but if you do want bacon, I think streaky is best. You can easily cook these pancakes by dolloping the batter onto a hot griddle (smooth, nor ridged, side) or heavy based pan. For US cup measures, use the toggle at the top of the ingredients list.

American Style Pancakes step by step

  1. Melt the butter in a frying pan then leave to cool a little.
  2. Sieve all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  3. Make a well in the mixture and crack in the egg. Beat in the egg with a fork and a little milk to form a thick paste. Try to work out all the lumps..
  4. All the rest of the milk and mix well using a fork or a whisk..
  5. Add in the melted butter and mix thoroughly. I transferred to a jug at this point to make it easier to pour into the pan..
  6. Using the same pan as before. Warm up the pan over a medium to high heat. Add a little butter. Once melted, smooth the butter around the pan using kitchen roll. This gives an even coating..
  7. Once the pan is really got, pour in a small amount of the batter. (I got 8 pancakes out of this recipe.) when bubbles start to appear on the topside of the pancake it is time to flip..
  8. Once both sides are golden brown, transfer to a warmed plate..
  9. I served with banana, strawberries and loads of maple syrup. But these work with amything!.

It was the best American-style pancakes (our local direct translation is Plate Cookies) I've ever had (and made myself). I served it to my family with some golden syrup and banana slices as toppings. This lock-down has prompted me to explore my culinary skills a bit more and this recipe was a huge hit. Easy, American-style, fluffy pancakes are great for feeding a crowd at breakfast or brunch. Blueberry pancakes (above) are great but you must try the corn pancakes.
